South Island - The SegaSonic & Sonic Team Forum! Welcome to South Island! Pull up a chair, grab a daquiri (non-alcoholic of course) and chill next to the old airplane for a while. ^_^ This is the spot for the gamers to come in and chat on the ORIGINAL Sonic. It's not just SegaSonic on discussion here, but Sonic's anime incarnations(Sonic X, the Movie/OVA, etc.) and general Sonic Team - Yuji Naka, Naoto Oshima, Phantasy Star Online, NiGHTS Into Dreams, and Samba! By the way - watch for falling Chu Chu's! ^^ |

^^So, what if the hypothetical reboot turns out to be a vast improvement in the quality of the franchise than in the last 15 years?

Reboot the damn franchise with a game to be released on June 23, 2011. Sonic's had green eyes for enough time now.

Hey, its possible. Refill Sonic Team with people that AREN'T idiots and know what they're doing. They also need to be smart, and realize WHAT IT IS
that we are asking for and HOW NOT TO RUSH EVERYTHING. It would be easy to make a good Sonic game. All that those idiots need to do is quit caring whether the
game comes out at frikkin' Christmastime or not and make a good game, and maybe listen to the public and QUIT IT WITH ALL THE NEW CHARACTERS, ALL THE DUMB
GIMMICKS, AND GIVE US SOMETHING THATS REALLY SONIC.

It'd be really nice if Sega could put together a team similar to the one that reinvigorated the TF franchise with Beast Wars and Animated.

Nah, they just need smart people.

Like I said, people like Bob Forward and Larry DiTillio from Beast Wars and Marty Isenberg and Derrick Wyatt from Animated.

Chaos, I'm looking at you (admittedly, he isn't so much a recurring character, but a total reboot would basically axe the entire storyline of Sonic Adventure- one of the best games since the Genesis days). Admittedly, the bad sort of outweighs the good when it comes to Sega's ideas lately... but a total reboot would be like taking the way that each new Sonic game basically dumps all the great ideas they had in the last game and starts from scratch to the EXTREME. I dunno- it may just be my personal dislike of reboots talking, but I feel there's about as much chance that they can salvage Sonic WITHOUT a reboot as there is that a reboot is the only way to go. I mean, there's so much good stuff they COULD salvage if they tried, and it seems more of a waste to abandon something entirely and start over from scratch than to try to make it work. Maybe THAT'S just my inner packrat talking (honestly, you should see all the junk I have in my room!). So, yeah- a reboot may end up in a critically better game, but I'd still regret losing the actually GOOD story points- the Sonic Adventure series in particular. In this, I admit I'm probably being very foolish, but that's just the way I feel. "If you know you're going to make an idiot out of yourself in public, you might as well have fun with it!" (Grins idiotically) -Me, on my philosophy on life Me to myself: "One of these days, I'm gonna go without my Ritalin so I can come up with a Quote Of The Whenever."

Doing a proper reboot does not mean they cannot reintroduce all of the good stuff from old series. The idea of using the engine behind the Daytime levels in
Unleashed and doing a proper remake of the original trilogy might be a good way to revitalize the series. Surely, with more than two dozen zones to recreate,
making a high-speed, exploration heavy, platformer with sufficient length should not be two difficult if the proper time and energy is invested, and the story
does not need much embellishment over what was found in the originals(perhaps proper cutscenes for when Sonic first meets Robotnik, Tails, and Knuckles are in
order as well as cutscenes before the Scrap Brain and Death Egg boss fights).
The second game of a Rebooted Series could be a proper retelling of the Chaos Saga from SA1.

Yeah. Basically, there is SO MUCH Sega could have done and could do but they're all just too lazy.

They're not lazy; They just need to stop shoving out Sonic games so often that get released within some months of each other every year. I'm pretty
sure that for every year since SA and/or SA2 came out you can probably count two, three, maybe even four Sonic games or games with Sonic in them that came out
that same year.
One example of this is around 2003. Sonic Battle and Sonic Heroes came out a few days apart in January, Sonic Advance 3 around May of that same year, and I think Shadow the Hedgehog came out that November (correct me if I'm wrong on that one). Heck, I'm pretty sure Sonic Rush and Sonic2k6 were out less than a year apart from each other. I think there's too much being done at the same time, which would lead to overworked people developing games, and the vicious cylcle keeps going on and on and on. |

^^Because it's a broken game slapped with an awful concept. It was also the real beginning of the series low point in the eyes of the gaming public. I mean
Sonic Heroes got some mediocre response, but Shadow was the game that got some true hate and most of it was pretty justified.

Although there was a certain satisfaction to obliterating all around you with Chaos Inferno (was that what it was called? Much better than Chaos Spear anyhow)
when you'd had a bad day in the office
Plus, the idea that you could take different paths through the game and get different endings seemed a good one, until you realised how many different times you'd have to do the same darn levels in only slightly different ways. That then lost its appeal somewhat. That and if you weren't paying attention, you ended up on a route you'd already finished. Add on at the end that (although for me its hearsay as I never unlocked all the routes), having gone through this herculean effort, you end up with a cut-scene lots of people seemed to dislike and that none of it is "canon" (insofar as anything is "canon" in Sonic) anyhow and it seems a big waste of time. I'd still pick it up occasionally I think, if I ever picked up my GC at all. DW
I am the terror that flaps in the night. I am the substantial and inescapable penalty for early withdrawal. I am Darkwing Duck!

Oh man, the story, especially the non-canon endings, was awful. One would be something like "I'm the ultimate life form! This is WHO I AM!" and
the next would be a minor difference like "I am the ultimate hedgehog! This is WHO I AM!". And some of the good and bad missions had nothing to do
with the overall story. Not to mention the generic level music (barring a few exceptions) and loads of unnecessary swearing. Otherwise, it played okay.

Why I hate the Shadow game.
- Useless guns and god awful handling vehicles - Terrible story that contradicts itself from one scene to the next - No Eggman Lackey ending - No real improvement in controls, camera and quality from Heroes. You know, the 3 main things wrong with all of the 3D games since 1999. - No "Green Hill Bad Future" style level, I mean what the first level should have been is Green Hill, but its raining and there is fire and there is a loop de loop you clear and lightning strikes it and it explodes. Why I like the Shadow game - I got a sick thrill from destroying things - Level design was a step forward - Bosses were an improvement - Soundtrack was nice

The thing I hate about Shadow is that he's somehow manages to take over a forum topic about TAILS.
