Now, maybe this was obvious to everyone, and I'm just a complete moron. But so far, everyone I've pointed this out to, in the past few days, was just as surprised as me.
It all starts with an early episode. The debut of Harvey Dent's transformation into Two-Face. Now we all know, Dent starts out as the District Attorney, blah blah, split personality this n' that. Yeah... but as a simple recap, Mob boss, Rupert Thorn, discovers Dent's split personality(Big Bad Harv), and steals his medical file with intentions to blackmail. He calls Harvey over to meet up in person, where he confronts him on this. This trigger's a reaction from Dent's alter-ego, Big Bad Harv, and a fight ensues. Dent is trying to take back the files, and Thorn's guys are trying ever-so-hard to stop him. Batman eventually joins the fight to help Dent retrieve the file.
However, as all of this is happening, only one thought is going through my head. And that is, "Geez, haven't ANY of these guys heard of a Xerox before?"
Seriously, any fool would know that if you're gonna blackmail someone with a piece of paper, to make SEVERAL backup copies before flaunting it in anyone's face.
And that's where it all hit me. I started to piece it all together. The reason they never made copies was because they couldn't. Batman the Animated Series, while it's never directly stated, is set in the 30's or 40's (early 50's at the VERY latest). Think very hard... in this show's Gotham City, look at the general style of clothing, the cars. No touch-tone phones. The only computer seen in the show is the Bat Computer, which is treated by the common world as a marvel in technology, and is the size of a wall. Aside from Batman's jet, all planes on the show are propeller-based. Whenever they pop on the TV, it's always in black and white. And Batman was introduced to the world in 1939.
Was I an idiot for never seeing this as a kid?
